Foam solution is a different product from bubble solution — most foam machines are built around a manufacturer's own concentrate or powder pack, not a dish-soap recipe. Here's what's actually sold, what it costs, and the dilution ratios the manufacturers themselves state.

Buy vs. mix your own

Unlike bubble solution, which has a well-established homemade recipe (dish soap, water, glycerin — see our bubble solution guide), foam machines are generally designed around a specific concentrate or powder product line. Real dilution ratios

FoamDaddy's own concentrated solution states a 1:80 concentrate-to-water ratio — "Mix 1/2 gallon to 40 gallons of water" — yielding roughly 2.5-3.5 hours of machine run time per 5-gallon jug and about 400 gallons of foam production. Foam Party Supply's powder-pack product runs lighter, at roughly 1 pouch per 50-60 gallons of water. FoamDaddy's Ready Foam Machine Solution is stated by the manufacturer to be "Biodegradable and Hypo-Allergenic. Non-Staining. No Scent." Foam Party Supply's powder packs are described as "Odorless, Dye-free, Hypoallergenic, Gentle on skin, Biodegradable" and gentle on vegetation. The Wham-O refill is labeled "Non-toxic foam solution" for its toy line. Matching solution to machine tier

Toy-tier machines like the Little Tikes FOAMO or Wham-O Foam Party Factory generally use small proprietary refill bottles. Consumer and prosumer cannons — VEVOR, FoamDaddy — use the larger concentrate or powder formats above, sized for hours of continuous runtime rather than a single afternoon. Concentrate vs. powder: which format to choose

FoamDaddy's concentrate ships as a liquid gel you dilute directly into the machine's water supply — convenient for a single long session since you can measure exactly what you need from the jug. Foam Party Supply's powder packs are pre-portioned per pouch, which makes them easier to transport to an off-site event and simpler to ration if you're running the machine in bursts across a multi-hour party, since each pouch is a known, fixed quantity rather than a partial measurement from a larger container.

How much solution do you actually need?

This depends on your machine's runtime and how long you plan to run it. A single 5-gallon FoamDaddy concentrate jug covers 2.5-3.5 hours of continuous machine operation per the vendor's own listing — more than enough for a standard 1-2 hour party with some margin. For shorter or smaller-scale events, a single Dr.Party powder pack (making up to 120 gallons of foam) covers roughly 30 minutes to 1 hour of runtime, per the vendor's stated duration. Storing leftover solution

Both concentrate and powder formats are shelf-stable when unmixed and stored per the manufacturer's instructions — check the specific product label, since we don't have a sourced shelf-life figure to quote here. Once diluted into ready-to-use foam solution, treat it the way you would any soap-based mixture: use it within the same event where possible, since diluted solution is more prone to degrading than the concentrate or powder it came from.

Cost per party once you own the machine

The upfront prices in the table above ($9-$650) look wildly different, but what matters for repeat use is cost per party. A $650 box of 40 Foam Party Supply pouches works out to roughly $16 per pouch, and if a single pouch covers a standard backyard party, that's your real per-event cost after the initial purchase — cheaper than a single Dr.Party pack bought one at a time at $9-$20. What happens if you get the ratio wrong

Too much concentrate relative to water produces thicker, heavier foam that doesn't travel as far from the machine and burns through your solution supply faster than planned.
