Foam party supplies: the complete shopping list

A foam party needs six categories of gear, and most of the disappointment we hear about comes from skipping the ones that aren't the machine — no ground cover, no hose splitter, nothing for the cleanup at the end. This list goes category by category with what to look for in each, not just a link dump. Machine and solution specs come from our own machine comparison dataset — real listings, real price ranges, nothing invented.

Is it safe?

  • Eyes: foam and solution can sting — keep water or a wet cloth on hand for a quick rinse.
  • Slippery surfaces: foam-covered grass and hardscape both get slick — keep young kids within arm's reach of an adult.
  • Supervision: an adult should be actively watching the whole time foam is running, not just nearby.

a. The machine

Pick by how often you'll use it, not just price. Our full machine comparison covers all three tiers in depth — the two most common starter picks:

MachinePriceWhat to look for
Tinleon Party Foam Machine $179-$300 Kit includes tripod, hose, and 2 pairs of goggles — check you're not buying those separately. Shop on Amazon → Browse on eBay →
Little Tikes FOAMO Foam Machine $52-$180 Plug-and-play kit — machine, blower, pump, hose, solution, and storage bucket are all included, so this is the cheapest complete option. Browse on eBay →

b. Foam solution / concentrate

Check the dilution ratio before you buy — a small bottle of concentrate goes much further than it looks. See our solution guide for full buy-vs-DIY math and dilution ratios from these same vendors.

SolutionPriceWhat to look for
Dr.Party Single Foam Powder Pack $9-$20 Vendor states one pack makes up to 120 gallons of foam — cheapest per-gallon option for a single afternoon. Shop on Amazon →
Wham-O Foam Party Refill Solution $9-$10 A 10oz refill sized for the Wham-O Foam Party Factory toy machine — matches your machine brand before buying. Shop on Amazon →
FoamDaddy Ready Foam Machine Solution (5 Gal) $199 Vendor states biodegradable and hypoallergenic, mixed at a 1:80 ratio — built for repeated commercial-tier use, not a one-off backyard party. View at FoamDaddy →

c. Water gear

Most first-timers skip this and end up running one hose back and forth between the machine and the sprinkler.

  • Hose splitter (Y-connector). Lets the machine and a second hose share one spigot — look for brass fittings over plastic, since plastic threads crack under repeated on/off use. Browse on eBay →
  • Fill/extension hose. Measure the actual distance from your spigot to the party zone before buying length — a hose that's too short is the most common last-minute run to the store. Browse on eBay →

d. The party zone

Marking and protecting the space matters more on hardscape than on grass — see our cleanup and lawn effects guide for what foam does to each surface.

  • Tarp / ground cover. Protects a driveway or patio from solution runoff and staining — look for reinforced grommets if you plan to stake down the corners. Browse on eBay →
  • Kiddie-pool border. A shallow inflatable pool works as a contained edge for younger kids who need a lower-foam zone. Browse on eBay →
  • Cones. Mark the perimeter — especially the boundary around the machine's power cord and outlet — so kids and adults both know where not to run. Browse on eBay →

e. What guests wear

  • Goggles. Several machine kits (Tinleon included) ship with a pair or two — count your guest list against what's included before buying more. Browse on eBay →
  • Swim gear. Foam solution isn't meant to sit in clothes — swimsuits or clothes you don't mind getting wet and slightly slick are the practical choice. Browse on eBay →

f. Cleanup

  • Towels. Keep a stack separate from your regular bathroom towels — you'll want them for eye-rinses during the party, not just drying off after. Browse on eBay →
  • Wet/dry vac. Worth having if you're running foam on a driveway or patio rather than grass, where residual water and solution won't just drain away. Browse on eBay →
